Have you ever tasted a 15-YEAR-OLD – PINOT NOIR – ? I would not have considered cellaring a Pinot Noir for such a long period of time. And now I find this MAGNUM bottle of 2001 Foxen Winery, Pinot Noir, Julia’s Vineyard, in the back of my cellar waiting for the right moment to open. That moment is NOW!

And… the moment is beautiful. It is unique. This Pinot Noir is already extra big and bold, made by very talented Pinot Noir winemakers. Now add to that 15 years of sleeping… and you get smooth and elegance added to big and bold. Still very much balanced acidity, with the delicious fruit we have all come to love from this varietal. To me it is black cherries, strawberries with subtle hints of cinnamon.

In 2003, I had the privilege to meet the two winemaking geniuses behind the Foxen Winery in Santa Maria, California… Richard Dore and William Wathen. Dick and Bill specialize in Pinto Noir. Experts! Thirty Years of perfecting Pinto Noir. And the reviews and ratings are fine compliments of their results. That day I left their winery with this prized bottle with both their autographs. A nice memory, a very nice moment… cheers to you guys!
