I have not yet written about my visit to the Miras Winery in Rio Negro Patagonia. This is a family enterprise led by Marcelo Miras wife Sandra and his son Pablo Miras, almost incognito inside a winery with the name Estepa written on the outside wall. You definitely want to go inside. This is a very small production of some extremely high quality wines.

I was first introduced to Miras Wines with a bottle of Cabernet Franc, with its rich black cherries all over the mouth. This wine will grab your attention… and you will never forget! However, Marcelo kept telling me just wait until you taste the Merlot (that Merlot grows very well in Patagonia). And so the problem began… his Merlot really is extraordinary, bringing out the beautiful soft qualities of this wine, and it was taking my attention away from the Cab Franc.

Then, when Marcelo brought out his Pinot Noirs (the magic grape of Patagonia), we did a vertical tasting of 03, 05, 09, and 12 vintages. While the 03 and 09 were the Rock Stars for me with their fresh raspberry flavors, the problem persisted with too many extraordinary wines… I generally have a favorite pick… so, can I just pick them all?
