“Originally, El Pomar was the almond capital of California with 1,375 acres of almond trees. Gradually the almond industry moved to the San Joaquin Valley
for easier farming. Vineyards took over. There are more than 2,000 acres of vines today.
This is a very special appellation; however, it is more of a growing region than where you will find wineries to visit. Many of the well-known wineries you know have vineyards here or purchase grapes from growers in this El Pomar AVA. ”
